PRESENTATION OF CONGENITAL CMV AT BIRTH AND FOLLOW UP THE INFECTED NEONATES.

Abstract: CMV is the most common congenital infection and is the leading cause of congenital hearing loss in worlds .The aim of the present study was to evaluate the frequency and complications of neonatal CMV infection in our hospitals in Tehran,Iran. Methods: During this analytic cross sectional study160 infants who were born in 2 educational university hospitals (Akbarabadi and Rasoul )hospitals were enrolled.Samples were collected ofcord blood of newborns , CMVinfection searched by serologic studies( ELISA) and CMV DNA tested in positive cases ( serologicaly) by PCR. At the end all data were collected anad analyzed by SPSSV16. Results: Mean value of gestational age was 35.4 ± 2.6 weeks and 64 ones(39.3%) were boy and other ones were girl. Birth weight was 1900 ± 451.Positive CMV-IgM found in 8 infants. The most frequent clinical signs was abnormal brain Ct-scan, Respiratory Dystress Syndreome and hearing loss. Conclusion: Present study showed that frequency of CMV and complication of it is serious in infant who was born in Iran(Tehran) so it seems screening test could help to reduce complications and cost of treatment of infants with CMV.
