North American perspectives on CMV prevention, identification, and clinical management in pregnancy
Abstract Summary
CMV approaches during pregnancy vary by country and guidance by their professional associations. This session will highlight differing approaches to CMV during pregnancy in North America through a representative the US and Canada.

Dr. Contag is Professor in the Division of Maternal-Fetal Medicine. He received his M.D. from the Central University in Quito, Ecuador, and then relocated to the US in 2001. He completed a residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology at Mayo Clinic, Rochester, MN and subsequently a fellowship in Maternal Fetal Medicine at Wake Forest University in Winston-Salem NC. Prior to coming to the University of Minnesota, Dr. Contag worked at the University of Maryland in the division of Maternal Fetal Medicine.
His works covers multiple aspects of Maternal Fetal Health. He was a member of the Minnesota Maternal Mortality Review Committee and is currently a member of the Congenital Syphilis Review Committee. His current research focuses on the impact of maternal comorbidities on fetal health. He has been working actively with the MDH team and the Emergency Departments in Minnesota to implement access to rapid syphilis testing and treatment history from MDH to treat people who are evaluated in the Emergency Department and who are incidentally found to be pregnant.

Dr. Eliana Castillo is Clinical Associate Professor at the University of Calgary, where her medical and teaching practice focuses on medical disorders in pregnancy and maternal infections. She has been active in the area of immunization during pregnancy, congenital CMV infection and maternal mortality at a local and national level through her work with the Society of Obstetrics and Gyneacologists of Canada, Alberta Perinatal Health Program and National Advisory Committee for Immunization.
