Coordinating a Country: How Canada Is Advancing CMV Advocacy, Research, and Policy
Abstract Summary
In June 2025, the Canadian cCMV Summit brought together clinicians, researchers, public health leaders, and advocates to align on a unified national strategy. This presentation will share the Summit’s key outcomes and the concrete steps now underway to coordinate CMV action across Canada. It will introduce the new national CMV research consortium, its governance structure, and initial workstreams aimed at supporting provincial research and advocacy goals. The session will also outline the proposed pan-Canadian cCMV registry — including its design, data priorities, and role in surveillance, research, and policy evaluation. To illustrate the strategy in action, recent high-profile provincial campaigns in Manitoba, New Brunswick, and Prince Edward Island will be briefly highlighted as proof-of-concept for how coordinated events, earned media, fundraising, and political engagement can move policy. Attendees will leave with an inside look at how Canada is building the infrastructure for nationwide CMV action and ideas for how similar models could be applied internationally.
