Expanded Targeted vs Universal- What our Experience Suggests
Abstract Summary
As many of you know, Utah became the first state to implement early CMV testing. Later in 2019, we then modified that approach using expanded targeted testing. Controversy continues whether universal DBS screening or this expanded testing is the best option for our patients. We will present how the Utah program works for our families and providers, data that suggests optimal outcomes then present recent data showing the results of DBS testing from our Utah CMV cohort (n=80; Sensitivity 74.8-83.8%). This latter work is a collaboration with the Minnesota and our research team. The results from this study will then be integrated with recent Utah legislation that may limit DBS access to families and the upcoming AAP position statement on CMV evaluation and treatment. The results of this presentation will hopefully provide an audience with a more nuanced and clearer picture of early CMV testing and action items for management.
