What Do People Know About CMV? What Can We do About It?

Awareness of CMV among the general population is relatively low. This session will examine awareness among women of childbearing years, medical students, and child care providers. One reason CMV awareness may be low is the lack of information included provided to women who are pregnant or planning to become pregnant. Data will be presented to show the accuracy and amount of information on pregnancy websites and in books. The session will conclude with specific tips for how to use social media to increase CMV awareness.

Dr. Rosemary Thackeray is a professor in the Department of Health Science at Brigham Young University (BYU). Prior to joining the BYU faculty in August 2000, Dr. Thackeray was employed for nine years at the Utah Department of Health, Bureau of Health Education. While on a sabbatical in 2006-2007, Dr. Thackeray worked for the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, National Center for Health Marketing in Atlanta, GA. At BYU Dr. Thackeray teaches undergraduate and graduate courses in evaluation and research methods. She received a baccalaureate degree in health education from Utah State University and earned both a Master of Public Health and Doctor of Philosophy in health promotion and education from the University of Utah. In her spare time Dr. Thackeray enjoys traveling, spending time with family, reading, collecting antique glassware, and eating ice cream.
